My name is Marcia (rhymes with Garcia) Gagliardi, and I’m a freelance food writer in San Francisco. I’m known by many as the “culinary concierge” and “the enthusiastic reviewer” because I simply adore the experience of dining and going out, and for the past 15 years have been adventuring throughout the City far and wide like a culinary swashbuckler. I write a weekly column, Foodie 411 for the SFCVB on their “Taste” site; a monthly gossip column, “The Tablehopper” for The Northside; and regular features for Edible San Francisco. I also had my first book come out in March 2010, The Tablehopper’s Guide to Dining and Drinking in San Francisco: Find the Right Spot for Every Occasion.
I have written features for Travel + Leisure, Entrepreneur, Fodor’s, *San Francisco magazine, Travel Weekly, Where Magazine, DiningOut Magazine, Marin Magazine,and the San Francisco Bay Guardian. I was the Regional Managing Editor for Northern California for Gayot.com (2006-2008), and wrote the weekly news and events. I contributed to the BlackBook List: San Francisco 2006 guidebook, and I wrote Where Magazine’s “Hot Tips-Dining” column each month of 2004, plus restaurant and nightlife reviews for Citysearch.com.
Since I’m always out and about, I get countless calls and emails from my friends and colleagues, asking, “Hey, what new place should I take my hairstylist to on Saturday?” (That depends; has your stylist ever made you cry?) Or, “Where should I go for a cocktail on a first date?” (I like getting my heat on at The Alembic.) And then there’s the one I hear the most after I tell someone I’m a food writer, “What’s your favorite place?” (Well, that entirely depends on the occasion.)
